POSITION: VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR AND COMMUNITY LIAISON
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP : Position reports to the Executive Director of CASA/GAL of Hancock County and the Family and Children First Council Coordinator, under the direction of the Probate and Juvenile Court Judge.
BENEFITS : $20.00+/hour, 40 hours/week. Hours are 8:00am – 5:30pm, Monday – Thursday and 8:00am – 12:00pm on Friday’s, with a 30-minute, unpaid lunch. This position may require work beyond normal business hours, including evenings.
County employees are enrolled into OPERS, and earn paid sick leave, paid legal holidays, and paid vacation leave after one (1) year of service in OPERS. Hancock County offers several medical/dental plan options, and additional coverage plans that are optional. A Deferred Compensation program is also available. This position is in person and At-Will.

PURPOSE OF POSITION: The purpose of this position is to assist with the recruitment, training, support and retention of the volunteers of the Court Appointed Special Advocates/Guardian ad Litem (CASA/GAL) program. These volunteers serve in the best interest of abused, neglected, or dependent children who have come to the attention of the Hancock County Juvenile Court. The volunteer coordinator is also responsible for their own caseload of children when deemed necessary.
In addition, this position is responsible for community awareness activities for the CASA program and Family and Children First Council (FCFC), as well as providing support for the Council and help to manage Hancock County’s No Wrong Door, BREAK, Fun for All (Teens), and other programming and events for youth and families.
This position will also greet and assist visitors to the CASA, FCFC, and Great Lakes Services Board offices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS This position requires a bachelor’s degree in the human services arena or a combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Experience in community-based work and programming a plus. Possesses an understanding of child abuse, neglect and dependency, families in crisis and chemical dependency issues. Commitment to CASA and the FCFC goals and mission. Valid driver’s license is required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Maintain an open and productive working relationship with CASA/GAL program staff, volunteers, community members, Juvenile Court Staff, Job & Family Services staff, Attorneys, Prosecutors, FCFC staff, and Council members in order to serve the best interest of the children being served.

Develop and maintain community awareness campaigns, including website updating, e-newsletters, social media content, traditional media, online and in-person informational sessions, and attendance at community events for both CASA and the FCFC.
CASA VOLUNTEER SUPPORT AND RETENTION
All newly hired CASA/GAL of Hancock County program staff shall attend CASA/GAL volunteer pre-service training in compliance with National CASA Standards. Program staff will also be required to attend additional trainings deemed valuable at the request of the Executive Director. These may require occasional in-state, overnight travel.
FCFC SUPPORT
- Manage branded social media account.
- Maintain bi-weekly e-newsletter with community updates.
- Attend monthly FCFC Council/Executive Committee meeting and take meeting notes, as well as additional meetings as required.
- Manage correspondence with Council members and others regarding meetings and upcoming events.
- Prepare program data and present for review by Council.
- Manage multiple committees and report to Council.
- Attend all related trainings and webinars.

Further, the Court expects the employee to demonstrate flexible and efficient time management, the ability to prioritize workload, the ability to perform duties in a timely, accurate and thorough manner, and to communicate regularly with the employee’s supervisors about work-related issues. The employee is expected is to demonstrate predictable and regular attendance.
