Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience:

Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and three (3) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of buildings, roads, grounds, facilities, structures, and/or equipment.

NOTE: Training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a trade school, institute or branch of the Armed Services may be substituted for the above training and experience on a year-for-year basis.

Special Requirements: (Depending on Assignment):

(1) Possession of a valid New York State Commercial Drivers License (CDL) (ClassB). Preferred Endorsements: M Metal Coil and W Tow Truck Restriction Codes limited to: B Corrective Lenses or F hearing Aid only.

: Good knowledge of the tools, techniques and terminology of one or more of the building, electrical, mechanical or road paving trades; good knowledge of the accident and safety precautions which generally apply to the building and mechanical trades; skill in the use of tools used in the trades for the maintenance of buildings, structures and equipment; ability to work from sketches and blueprints; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to drive in all types of weather conditions and ambient light; ability to work well with others; resourcefulness in troubleshooting mechanical and/or electrical problems; initiative in completing assigned work; industriousness; physical strength and agility; ability to perform in a reasonable manner the essential functions of the position.

(2) Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation.

Examples of Work: (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY):

Replaces, rebuilds, repairs and/or installs guide rails; fences; mountings for signs; meters; roofs;

steps; railings; floors; leaders; gutters; flashings and other structures;

Replaces door checks, resets doors, builds supporting structures and cabinets, and does

miscellaneous carpentry repair;

Replaces, rebuilds, repairs and installs street/holiday lighting; performs electrical maintenance,

repair and installation of street/holiday lighting;

Performs routine electrical and plumbing maintenance, repair and installation work, such as

repairing and/or replacing electrical or plumbing fixtures, installing/maintaining

electrical/electronic circuits, installing/maintaining heating systems, in part or in whole, etc.;

Performs routine maintenance and repair on small engines, automotive equipment, mechanical

equipment including meters, tractors, street sweepers, lawn mowers, wastewater and irrigation

systems, filtration equipment, truck equipment, power tools, hand tools and others as assigned;

Builds and erects staging and decorative wooden structures for public exhibit or display;

Paints and patches walls, guide rails, posts, structures, furniture, etc.;

Cuts, plants and maintains trees, shrubs, turf and grounds;

Replaces broken glass and repairs windows;

Operates street sweeping, snow removal, mowing, sewer cleaning and other equipment;

Prepares furnaces for winter use by cleaning and repairing, or by replacing the heating system;

Repairs and maintains hot water, steam and hot air lines;

Repairs, builds and installs masonry, concrete or asphalt structures, curbs and sidewalks;

Maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe condition;

Maintains records of work completed and prepares required reports;
