The Cook County Office of the President is seeking a Deputy Chief of Staff - Communications. This senior leadership role oversees all communication and public affairs operations for the County and is responsible for setting strategy, shaping policies and procedures, and coordinating timely, accurate responses to media inquiries. The role ensures clear, consistent, and impactful messaging across newsletters, press releases, speeches, and public statements. Acting as a key spokesperson, this role promotes the County's priorities and achievements, manages staff, and builds strong relationships with the media and community. As part of the executive team, the Deputy Chief of Staff contributes to the evaluation of strategic initiatives, communication strategies, and policy proposals, ensuring transparency and public trust.

SALARY RANGE : $155,070- $189,530/Yearly

Responsible for the overall management and control of communication and public affairs operations. Responsible for developing policies and procedures for the coordinated response to the media and responsible for directing, assigning, explaining, reporting and promoting through the media points of information and programs regarding the County. Provides accurate and supportive press coverage of the efforts and accomplishments of the bureau/department and coordinating agencies. Supervises the conduct of individuals working on public affairs efforts. Responsible for authorizing all quotes for newsletters, resolutions, congratulatory letters, press releases, and media inquiries. Represents the County before the press and coordinates public affairs, communications and community outreach. Serves as a member of the senior executive team to evaluate strategic initiatives, communication strategy, and policy proposals.
This position is in the Office of the Cook County Board President. As such, this position involves policymaking or implementation related to the administration's political and policy views, and/or requires a high-level of confidentiality such that political affiliation is an appropriate consideration for the effective performance of the job.
Performs other duties as assigned.

As an employee in a Shakman Exempt position, if you do not currently live in Cook County, you will have six (6) months from date of hire to establish actual residency within Cook County.
