The Credentialing Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of provider credentialing and re-credentialing in a healthcare environment. This role ensures compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements while maintaining accurate and up-to-date provider records.
Key Responsibilities Credentialing & Provider ManagementFacilitate all aspects of provider credentialing, including:
Initial appointments
Reappointments
Credential audits
Clinical privileging
Support credentialing for Medical Staff, Allied Health Professionals, and other providers in accordance with corporate policies and medical staff bylaws
Provide credentialing back-up coverage for other team members as needed
Ensure physician and provider licenses are renewed prior to expiration
Conduct Primary Source Verification (PSV) for new and existing providers
Interpret and comply with applicable accrediting and regulatory agency requirements
Maintain working knowledge of credentialing-related statutes and regulations
Utilize MDStaff credentialing software to perform and monitor:
Credentialing checks
Background verifications
Privileging documentation
Maintain accurate provider files and records, ensuring all information is current
Use database alerts, reports, and scanned documentation tools to track credentialing status
Ensure consistency and accuracy in database entries to support standardized credentialing processes
Bachelor’s Degree – Required
Healthcare field experience – Required
Proven experience in provider credentialing and re-credentialing
Strong attention to detail and audit skills
Familiarity with credentialing software systems (MDStaff preferred)
Ability to manage multiple credentialing files and deadlines simultaneously
Strong understanding of regulatory and accreditation standards related to credentialing
